![]() As a spa suite key holder, access to the spa facilities is complimentary during your stay, but in conflict to what I was told during the booking process. There are comfy sofa's and chairs to sit in and I'm sure the log burner makes it all particularly cosy in the winter. The bar (1608) was always a pleasant visit and the members of staff both attentive and friendly. We took a meal in Reflections restaurant and is indeed a casual place, serving an acceptable standard of fayre. The attention to detail before a service goes out is standard behaviour in a 5 star hotel. For example, on the last morning, the two latte's were in fact two empty cups. We took breakfast daily in the room and as mentioned in other reviews, various items were missing or wrong each day. ![]() It was on the highest shelf - and been missed, hopefully not since the ticket date. Quite how there was a Zara tag and a dry cleaning ticket dated 2019 in the wardrobe area though is still a mystery. You may have to ask for firmer ones if needed. However, the room was clean and tidy, bed comfortable with soft pillows. ![]() The room was well stocked with Temple Spa products, which unlike the water in the fridge, was replenished daily. To the room - Treetops - a Spa suite room that has plenty of space, but being placed in the top of the building means that the sloped roofs can catch taller folk out, so mind your head. In summary, the rooms, bar, spa and food are all more than adequate, but the hotel does let itself down with small details, which show how its grip on those stars are slipping. The hotel has the benefit of being set in spacious grounds, with the classic view of the house as you drive up to the front. The most recent visit this week was for a three night stay for two, in a Spa suite room. Having now had three visits to the Alexander, over a period of fifteen years, it is fair to say that its grip as a 5 star hotel is loose. We had a great stay and would visit again without hesitation!… You didn't have to trek miles in your dressing gowns to get to the spa as you do in some spa hotels. What we particularly liked about the spa was its proximity to the main hotel. The spa is lovely and has many treatment rooms. The second night we ate in Reflections and had a great meal (thank you for the celebratory petit fours). There was a culinary mishap in AGs on our first night but this was satisfactorily rectified by Leanne and very politely dealt with by the restaurant manager. Well, after 50 years of marriage, you do deserve a treat and a treat it was! The staff at the hotel are all very helpful. Firstly, our room was very kindly upgraded and was beautiful. The hotel nestles in beautiful countryside and the grounds are well kept with lovely outdoor areas to enjoy fine weather. For us, it was a special occasion and part of a celebratory 12 day tour of southern England. We took a two day spa break at this hotel at the beginning of September.
